my invisible friend, the short film directed and written by the young Catalan filmmaker Pablo Larcuen (Barcelona, 1987) and produced by Full Emotions, has won the short film category at the recently held Los Angeles Film Festival. my invisible friend is a work that tells the story of a boy who has no contact with society, lives at his parents' house, isolated in his inner world, without friends, playing video games, reading comics and masturbating. Everything changes when one day an imaginary friend appears who tries to help him out of his loneliness.
The festival jury defined the short as "a very funny, rude story that comes with many unexpected turns. With a perfect tone in its darkest form, it earned an ironic but cordial ending to the story." The film has been in other festivals such as Sundance Film Festival, Film Festival 2010 (Puerto Rico), Málaga Film Festival 2010, 36th Seattle International Film Festival 2010 or the 64th Edinburgh International Film Festival, where it has received excellent reviews.
Pablo Larcuen
At the age of five, Pablo Larcuen saw ET in his house. From that moment on he decided that what he wanted was to dedicate himself to cinema (although he was completely ignorant of how a film was made). During the summer of 1998, after an excursion through the mountains with two friends, he saw a type of “UFO”. After this experience he decided to carry a camera with him for the rest of his life, until at the age of 19 he entered the ESCAC, currently in his last year of his degree.
My invisible friend has a script by Larguen himself, production by Andrea Puig and photography by Albert Murillo. The assembly is the work of Antonio Gómez-Pan while Víctor Santacana has been in charge of the artistic direction. With sound by Pablo Larcuen, the music has been composed by Zacarías Martínez de la Riva.
