Adobe at the BBC with Premiere Pro CS5
The BBC will deploy non-linear editors in 2,000 jobs to speed up production and advance broadcast workflows. Premiere Pro CS5 allows professionals to collaborate more efficiently by supporting round-trip editing between it, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer. This gives BBC users and workgroups maximum flexibility when moving assets between applications and collaborating on projects.
Adobe announced at IBC that broadcaster BBC is adopting Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software to support its Creative Desktop Initiative, through which the corporation is improving its workflow efficiency, creating a tapeless work environment and reducing costs. The corporation launched the creative desktop initiative in 2007, and is now rolling out an additional 2,000 licenses of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 as the company's primary tool for desktop non-linear editing.
Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of dynamic media at Adobe, commented: “With its adoption of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software, the BBC will be able to increase its efficiency by working with software that integrates with its essential systems while supporting sophisticated metadata that can reuse content, creating new revenue streams.”
The British broadcaster has adopted Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software to increase productivity and efficiency, reduce costs and streamline the process of reusing content for distribution on different channels through a completely digital workflow. The new Adobe Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 enables field-based users to open projects faster, edit high-definition footage in real time, and play projects without rendering at the station. Both Premiere Pro CS5, Photoshop Extended and After Effects are now native 64-bit applications, both on Mac and Windows.
Premiere Pro CS5 enables corporate video professionals to collaborate more efficiently by supporting back-and-forth editing between Premiere Pro CS5, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Avid Media Composer. This gives BBC users and workgroups maximum flexibility when moving assets between applications and collaborating on projects.
From the introduction to encoding, Premiere Pro CS5 provides extensive metadata support, making it easier to find assets and allowing the corporation to earn more revenue from content distributed across all its channels. It also offers an open architecture that makes integration with essential systems such as newsroom control systems possible.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software is an integrated element of the Creative Suite 5 Production Premium suite that covers the entire post-production workflow for video, audio, graphics and web publishing and includes After Effects CS5 Professional, Premiere Pro CS5, Encore CS5, Photoshop CS5 Extended, Illustrator CS5, Flash Professional CS5, Soundbooth and Dynamic Link applications. Adobe Creative Suite 5 Production Premium also includes OnLocation CS5 for direct-to-disk recording and monitoring.
