The CMT inaugurates its definitive headquarters in Barcelona
With the inauguration of the new CMT building, the process of definitive transfer of the organization to Barcelona culminates, which began in November 2005, when the regulator was provisionally located and under lease in the Mapfre Tower. In this way, the CMT has an emblematic and proprietary headquarters that has, among other facilities, an auditorium for 300 people.
This Wednesday, the Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT) inaugurated its definitive headquarters in Barcelona. The new CMT building is located on Bolivia Street, number 56, within the 22@ district, an important technological cluster where innovative companies, universities, public administrations and research centers coexist. The inauguration was attended by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, José Montilla, the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, Miguel Sebastián, the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, and the President of the CMT, Reinaldo Rodríguez.
Two different spaces
The new property consists of two different spaces. On the one hand, a ten-story main building for offices and services with a total area of 12,200 square meters. This surface will be used for the development of the daily activity of the different directorates of the CMT, the offices of the Presidency and the Council of the Commission. In addition, it includes technical services and common spaces for workers, such as different meeting and training rooms, a library and a cafeteria.
The second set is a historic warehouse, Can Tiana, listed as industrial heritage by Barcelona City Council, attached to the main building and which preserves its original structure from the beginning of the 20th century. The nave, made of exposed brick and interior cast iron pillars, contrasts with the office tower, which gives rise to a genuine image of the 22@ district, which links modernity with the industrial tradition of the city. In this historic building there is a First Cycle Early Childhood Education Center, a multifunction meeting room and an auditorium with capacity for 300 people. These spaces, which comply with all accessibility measures for people with disabilities, will reinforce the capacity and role of 22@ as a meeting point for the technology sector.
Sustainable building
The CMT building, made of steel and glass, is designed to have efficient bioclimatic behavior. Among the ecological sustainability systems, solar panels and hot-cold network distribution stand out, which allows, in addition to energy savings, a 50% reduction in C02 emissions into the atmosphere. The façade of the new headquarters has a solar insulating coating.
The CMT acquired this property from the Castellví Real Estate Group and the project was drafted by the Batlle i Roig Arquitectes firm, who defined a unique office construction that respects the environment.
In the acquisition of the land and the construction of the building, the CMT has invested a total of 62.5 million euros, part of which financing was obtained after the CMT agreed to a compensation of 37 million euros with State Heritage for the transfer of its former Madrid headquarters on Alcalá Street.
With the inauguration of the new CMT building, the process of definitive transfer of the organization to Barcelona culminates, which began in November 2005, when the regulator was provisionally located and under lease in the Mapfre Tower. In this way, the CMT has an emblematic and proprietary headquarters, in accordance with the needs of representativeness, space and security that the regulator requires to carry out its daily activity.
