The Brazilian operator Global Village Telecom (GVT), recently acquired by the Vivendi group, will develop its new hybrid project, with broadcast broadcast via satellite and return via IP telephone lines, based on Ericson's conditional access technology.

The new hybrid DTH-IPTV platform, with broadcast broadcast via satellite and return via IP telephone lines, that the Brazilian operator Global Village Telecom (GVT), currently in the hands of the Vivendi group, is developing will be based on Ericson's Verimatrix conditional access technology.

This new DTH-IPTV platform is scheduled to be launched before mid-2011, with plans to start with around 200,000 subscribers, a figure that would rise to two million in the first two years.

A total of four companies have competed to take over this project (Nokia-Siemens, Ericsson, Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent), with Verimatrix's conditional access being present in three of the four projects.
