EchoStar entrusts Conax with conditional access for its new connected devices
The first product from an agreement between EchoStar and Conax will be the EchoStar HDC-420, a high-definition (HD) set-top-box that is pre-integrated with Conax conditional access.
EchoStar Europa has licensed the Conax conditional access system for use in a new range of connected device solutions. The first product of this agreement will be the EchoStar HDC-420, a high-definition (HD) set-top-box that is pre-integrated with conditional access and integrated software for the operation of a suite of applications, including its award-winning user interface (UI), electronic programming guide (EPG) and access to value-added services over IP. This product solution is intended for a wide range of cable operators throughout Europe.
The HDC-420 offers cable television reception with the added flexibility of access to on-demand services and applications. This STB is upgradeable for personal video recorder via a simple USB.
It is especially suitable for markets where operators want to combine cable television delivery with value-added IP services such as Smart TV, over-the-top (OTT) on-demand content and other hybrid digital entertainment applications.
