Content consumption through connected devices in the US now reaches 38% of homes
According to a study of more than 1,200 US homes by Leichtman Research Group, at least 13% of adults access audiovisual content through these connected devices at least once a week, compared to 10% a year ago, or only 5% two years ago.
By devices, game consoles are the most connected to the Internet with 28%, while only 4% of homes have their television connected to the Internet.
An increase in the consumption of content through the network is given, among other reasons, by the push that the Netflix subscription service is achieving in the market.
The Emerging Video Services VI study reveals that eight out of ten use this service to watch television programs, 59% accessing it through the game console. Half of their clients would be satisfied with their service, and only one in ten expresses their intention to unsubscribe in the next half year. Only 7% of Netflix subscribers would be willing to change providers, and only 13% would be willing to reduce their budget for this purpose (compared to 21% last year).
16% of all adults watch long-form television shows and series at least once a week, compared to 12% last year.
Regarding video consumption on smartphones, 19% of adults consume online video at least once a week, compared to 15% last year and only 6% three years ago.
The most notable increase is, without a doubt, video consumption on tablets. Almost one in ten already admits to watching online content at least once a week.
From this study by Leichtman Research Group it is clear that although multi-platform video consumption shows a significant boom, it still appears as a complement to traditional television and not as a substitute.
