AJA Video Systems announced at NAB 2011 that the AJA Ki Pro Mini is the first Apple ProRes recommended solution for the recently released RED EPIC camera. AJA has also opened up new working possibilities with the launch of FS2, a universal frame synchronizer and converter with two completely independent channels.

AJA Video Systems (Booth SL4420) announced at NAB 2011 that the AJA Ki Pro Mini is the first Apple ProRes recommended solution for the recently released RED EPIC camera.

RED's Ted Schilowitz noted that "AJA's Ki Pro Mini is the first ProRes recorder we've tested in depth and recommend for use with the RED EPCI. Schilowitz acknowledged that "I used the 1080p broadcast-quality offline video recorder while capturing 5K EPIC REDCORE RAW files with the Pictorvision headmount on a helicopter this week, and it worked like a charm. I know first-hand that the high industry standard of AJA equipment is based on their proven performance and reputation for high-quality professional equipment, and the KiPro Mini is no exception. It performed robustly under the pressure of a real-world high-end cinematography shooting environment, where things are really put to the test. We tried it and we fell in love with it.”

Ki Pro Mini fits directly onto the rear of the RED EPIC camera, using the AJA Mini Mounting Plate, with a standard V-Lock adapter.

FS2

AJA has opened up new possibilities with the launch of FS2, a universal frame synchronizer and converter with two completely independent channels that can be used separately or together, all in a compact 1 RU design. Each FS2 video channel supports virtually any input or output: analog composite or component video, 3G/HD/SD-SDI, Dual-Link and HDMI I/O – and each channel has its own snapshot buffer, panel, and color video corrector and amplification.

Kona 3G

AJA has announced in Las Vegas the new 4K Mode for the KONA 3G capture card. Available with the new Version 9.0 software for KONA 3G, 4K Mode supports true 4K playback and monitoring. KONA 3G is a multi-format SD/HD/Dual Link/3G and 2K video input/output solution that provides unrivaled flexibility for professional audio and video applications. KONA 3G launched in fall 2010, with thousands of units already in use around the world.

4K Mode on KONA 3G is elegant and simple. Defining a new standard for quality 4K monitoring, KONA 3G offers 4K playback in both YCbCr and RGB, at resolutions up to 4096x2160. When 4K playback is selected, the KONA 3G's four SDI connectors are remapped as outputs to drive the four quadrants of a 4K display.

Mini-converters

AJA has introduced five new mini-Converters at the fair: the Hi5-Fiber and four new models of the FiDO family of SDI/Optical Fiber mini-converters.

Hi5-Fiber converts HD/SD-SDI in single mode at 1310nm on an ST-style fiber optic cable to drive HDMI monitors. It supports 8 channels of embedded audio on the HDMI output, allowing for a natural audio/video connection on the cable, and also provides two RCA audio outputs for separate audio monitoring. HDMI v1.2 capability is standardized and requires no user configuration.
