In an operation valued between 20 and 30 million dollars, Yahoo has just acquired the company IntoNow which, created last January, had achieved great popularity by launching an application that is capable of identifying television content by scanning the audio.
What many call the “Shazam of audio” (compared to the famous app capable of locating a song just by 'listening' for a few seconds), IntoNow allows you to capture the audio of a television program by identifying it.
This platform was created by a former Google and Viacom MTC executive. Its secret is none other than a huge database in which more than five years of American television programming has been catalogued.
By just 'listening' for a few seconds, this app is capable of showing the name of the chapter, the duration of the episode or program, information about it and links related to the content being viewed.
The application, which is currently available for iPhone and soon for iPad and Android, integrates perfectly with Facebook, Twitter, iTunes and Netflix, allowing you to exchange information about programming with other users.
Adam Cahan, CEO of IntoNow, commented that his company "has built a unique way for users to interact with others by sharing the content they enjoy. There is no doubt that new applications and devices are changing the way we interact with television in significant ways. The IntoNow team is delighted to join Yahoo! helping to create new consumer experiences."
