Icahn buys 9.98% of Netflix
The operation involved the purchase of 5.41 million Netflix shares.
Billionaire investor Carl Icahn has acquired 9.98 percent of the shares of the online video distribution platform Netflix. The operation involved the purchase of 5.41 million Netflix shares.
Icahn considers the US company's shares to be "undervalued" due to the company's dominant market position and its international growth prospects.
The investor has launched this purchase due to the significant strategic value of Netflix.
It is noteworthy, on the other hand, that in recent weeks a possible purchase of Netflix by Microsoft has been rumored.
After the announcement of Icahn's entry and the precautionary suspension of Netflix's listing on the stock market, the value of the share increased by 20 percent, reaching 84.95 dollars (65.5 euros) compared to the 69.58 (53.7 euros) at which it closed the previous session.
Netflix is currently experiencing greater competition and greater expenses to be able to offer new content and to finance its international expansion.
