'Insensibles', Juan Carlos Medina's debut film, begins filming
This Spanish-French-Portuguese co-production involving Roxbury Pictures, A Contracorriente Films, Les Films d’Antoine, Tobina Film and Fado Filmes, in collaboration with Televisió de Catalunya, will be filmed over seven weeks in locations in Catalonia and Huesca. Alejandro Martínez is in charge of photography.
This week filming began Insensitive, first feature film by Franco-Spanish short filmmaker Juan Carlos Medina, with a script by Luiso Berdejo ([Rec]) and Medina himself, whose cast is headed by Àlex Brendemühl (Heroes, The 2 lives of Andrés Rabadán), Juan Diego (Lope, get away from me), Tómas Lemarquis (Noi Albino), Derek de Lint (The unbearable lightness of being, The black book), Ramon Fontserè (Soldiers of Salamis, The 7th day), Silvia Bel (Marian Year, Torapia), Felix Gomez (Thirteen Roses, Agnosia), Bea Segura (Iron, Salvador Puig Antich), Lluís Soler (Camera Obscura, Welcome to Farewell-Gutmann) and Irene Montalà (The Anarchist's Wife, The Russian Dolls).
This Spanish-French-Portuguese co-production, participated by Roxbury Pictures, A Contracorriente Films, Les Films d'Antoine, Tobina Film and Fado Filmes, in collaboration with Televisió de Catalunya, will be shot over 7 weeks in locations in Catalonia and Huesca.
The film has the participation of Cofimage and Canal + France, and with the support of ICIC, ICAA, Eurimages and Ibermedia. A Contracorriente Films will distribute the film in Spain, and in France the distribution will be carried out by Distrib Films and Wild Bunch. Elle Driver is in charge of international sales.
The technical team is made up of director of photography Alejandro Martínez (Hierro, Stay Alive), the art director Iñigo Navarro (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Orphanage), costume designer Ariadna Papió (heather), Ester Velasco (Agnosia) in production management, Raúl Romanillos (Mortadelo and Filemón, Mar Adentro, The Kingdom of Heaven) in charge of special effects and DDT (Agora, Pan's Labyrinth) of the special makeup, the editor Pedro Ribeiro (The night of the sunflowers) and Onirikal Studio, responsible for the digital effects. Executive production is provided by Antoine Simkine (Listen to time, Sons of Norway), François Cognard (Amer), Miguel A. Faura (Iron, Agnosia) and Manuel Monzón (Fermat's room, Oceans).
Insensitive tells the story of a brilliant neurosurgeon, who needs a bone marrow transplant and who has to find his biological parents to survive. All the answers about its origin are hidden in a past of silence and mystery. In his search, he discovers that during the Civil War a group of children were born with a strange and unknown illness: they were insensitive to physical pain.
