Canal Sur, one of the most important regional public broadcasters in Spain, has begun broadcasting its new high definition channel under control of the Pebble Beach Marine automation system. The system incorporates asset management from Tedial, K2 servers and routers from Grass Valley K2, DVE and mixing from Miranda and graphics from Orad.

Canal Sur, one of the most important regional public broadcasters in Spain, has begun to broadcast its new high definition channel under control of the Marina automation system of Pebble Beach.

José Enrique Zamorano, technical director of Canal Sur, highlighted that “the Pebble Beach teams and their Spanish partner, Promotes, have provided exceptional service, especially during the last few weeks of July when we transferred control of our HD channel to the Marina automation system. Canal Sur HD offers a mix of programming, including movies and sports, and we are delighted that Marina allows us to broadcast Champions League matches to our audience for the first time in high definition.”

Based in Seville, Canal Sur will add more channels to Marina's automation control in the coming weeks and months. Marina's automation system is at the heart of an innovative installation incorporating mxfSPEEDRAIL S1111 encoders from MOG Technologies instead of using traditional video servers for ingest. Marina also ingests material from Canal Sur's FTP site, automatically detects new content and starts the transfer automatically as soon as the files are available.

The system incorporates asset management Tedial, K2 servers and routers Grass Valley K2, DVE and mix of Miranda and graphics of Run. Marina has been supplied with six clients, of which four are dedicated to breeding and ingest operations. The remaining two are used to mark segments, clips and finishing functions. A total of 15 channels are controlled from this system: four main channels with A/B playout, full mix and graphics, three simple channels, one backup channel and seven subregional channels.

Zamorano added that thanks to Marina's language and interface customization, “start-up and training have been very simple.”
