ZDF migrates the playout of three of its channels to Pebble Beach Marina

The German public broadcaster ZDF (Deutsches Fernsehen Zweites) has migrated the playout system of its channels ZDFneo, ZDFkultur and ZDFinfo to the Marina automation control of Pebble Beach. In this way, five ZDF channels broadcast through the Marina automation solution.

Additionally, ZDF has implemented new Marine ingest system to enable file-based workflows along with the digitization of assets onto video tape. Following the successful implementation of the Marina solution for temporary ingestion, this new system now serves five channels, using the Marina API web-services to interact with ZDF's own in-house traffic and media management systems.

Pebble Beach CEO Peter Hajittofi said: "Building on the metadata management already in service at ZDF, the new Marina ingestion system manages automated ingest file processes, driven by multiple external systems and a series of complex custom rules configured to match ZDF's business requirements. Marina's distributed architecture allows a total of 35 multi-functional operator positions to access the base through multiple segregated systems, together with the new Marina Web client for secure and cost-effective remote access. This installation controls a total of 146 server ports and showcases Marina's capabilities as a robust and flexible platform to support the most demanding operational needs. It is an ideal complement for state broadcasters such as ZDF.

The installation for the ZDFneo, ZDFkultur and ZDFinfo playout has Nexio servers under VDCP and API control, EMC nearline, Evertz matrices, BFE router control, Vizrt graphics, and Miranda logo inserter (Grass Valley). Marina controls all of these systems in addition to the Sony and Panasonic VTRs for ingest and playout.
