TV Globo expands its automation in São Paulo, Brasilia and Recife with Pebble Beach Marina
Globo migrates its old playout automation systems towards a 100% file-based workflow with greater content agility in all regions.
TV Globo of Brazil continues with the migration of its old systems playout automation toward Marina of Pebble Beach.
Marina systems already installed at the company's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro generate Globo's main broadcast along with Globo Internacional, and Marina's newest facilities are located in São Paulo, Brasilia and Recife.
Modeled after Rio's infrastructure, the Marina system in São Paulo offers playout automation from three servers, with four ingestion channels and 12 playout channels (four per transmission).
The São Paulo facility generates the São Paulo state and capital broadcasts, and another facility in São Paulo is currently being configured to provide DR (disaster recovery) to the Rio, Brasilia and Recife operations with real-time media synchronization and playlists. The Brasilia and Recife broadcast operations provide a channel to their respective local regions.
Eduardo Ferreira, director of playout and distribution technology at TV Globlo, highlights that "after the successful installation of Marina in Rio last year, we decided to continue migrating the old automation systems in our other broadcast centers. Our goal was to better integrate our premises with a common workflow for each one. This gives us greater agility with the exchange of metadata and content, and at the same time optimizes all our resources."
The standardized Marina automation platform provides powerful integration into Globo's regional playout centers, with real-time online updates to Globo's corporate systems. Marina improves operational efficiency with automated content sharing and strengthens disaster recovery preparedness.
Globo's new file-based workflow eliminates all physical media for content delivery, confirmation and playout, while fully automating media transfers and replay across sites and devices, in accordance with Globo's business standards.
Marcelo Blum, systems manager at Videodata, systems integrator responsible for recommending and installing Marina, notes that "the Globo team considered several criteria, including Marina's ability to easily integrate with Globo's proprietary network planning system interface. Content control throughout the process, strong integration with tapeless systems and media, complete redundancy and flexibility, along with excellent performance were key requirements."
Marina allows operators to view high-resolution clips so they can preview, edit and approve content directly in the Marina user interface. It allows for quick, reliable playlist changes and makes streaming breaking news quick and easy. Comprehensive timers facilitate continuous schedule adjustments to meet strategic decisions. Globo also uses Lighthouse, a Marina web client interface, to easily monitor status and remotely control playlists.
In addition to installing Marina from Pebble Beach Systems, Videodata has also integrated Advantage of Telestream and VM-600 Dolby as part of Globo's complete solution.
