The Argentine newspaper La Nación plans to launch its own DTT channel
The newspaper La Nación of Buenos Aires (Argentina) will participate in the contest called by the Federal Authority for Audiovisual Communication Services (AFSCA) to obtain a license for a digital terrestrial TV channel.
According to the newspaper El Cronista, the newspaper La Nación is going to establish a company through which it will participate in the public tender called by AFSCA for 'the awarding of licenses to provide a digital open TV audiovisual communication service in the ISDB-T standard'.
Without any experience in the television area, La Nación seeks to launch its own channel in the Argentine digital terrestrial TV system, with the name 'LN TV', as a way to explore new opportunities and open a new business area in the media market.
La Nación, together with the newspaper Clarín, has had a confrontation with the Government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for some years, since both media oppose the Audiovisual Communication Services Law sanctioned in 2009 at the initiative of the Casa Rosada. Due to this situation, the morning newspaper considered that although “the opportunities of obtaining a license are low”, this is the time to request it to take the first steps in the segment.
