Jordi Utiel, from VSN: “we export 65% of our production”
VSN is a company in the ICT sector, located in the Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya (Barcelona), that develops software solutions for the digitization and automation of TV channels, producers and distributors of audiovisual content. Created in 1990, and with its own offices in Dubai (UAE), Miami (USA), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Brazil, VSN has been providing its solutions to more than 1,000 clients in around 80 countries for more than 20 years.
VSN automates most of a television's processes, building an efficient, “tapeless” environment through fully integrated applications. More than 50 modules developed on non-proprietary technology, operating with standard hardware and assured scalability, guarantee profitable television installations.
Jordi Utiel, CEO of VSN, analyzes in this interview the current moment of the company and its participation in Broadcast IT 2011.
What is VSN currently working on?
Currently we have just developed important projects in Spain, such as the digital writing of the new program “8 al día” on the Catalan 8TV. The new newsroom has 24 jobs, 16 of them for editors, and is prepared to simultaneously receive information from six news agencies (AFP, Reuters, Europa Press, EFE, Atlas, ACN) and other external sources via FTP, such as BarçaTV and 8 mobile units of the channel itself. The workflow is very agile since the information from each agency is received, transcoded and stored centrally in VSN's MAM system.
In addition, we have also contributed our VSNIPTransfer technology to Errequerre, the largest Spanish-speaking platform for the management of audiovisual content in Spain. Errequerre is the first audiovisual content exchange community for companies in the communication sector that uses the Internet as a means of content transmission, bidirectionally, both for downloading and publishing content (upload). At Barcelona TV we have integrated our solution for automating the continuity of TV channels, VSNMulticom, with the Flumotion Web TV system.
Outside our borders we can highlight the project of the Colombian RCN, where we have integrated our tool for the contribution and distribution of content over the Internet, VSNIPTransfer, with Avid's i.News, Isis and Interplay systems. At the Greek SKAI TV, we have equipped its four-channel playout center with a complete, fully redundant and expandable broadcast system. Last week at Kuwait's Alam Al Youm we were installing a broadcast system based on our VSNMatic solution, our content management solution VSNSharer and an advanced graphics system VSNCG+.
I also want to highlight that we export around 65% of our production.
What does your presence at the fair give you?
The fair is a technological showcase, showing the latest developments in broadcast equipment. It is important to be present, because if there is any place in Spain where TV channels know that they will find all the offer available for their present and future needs, it is at this fair. Furthermore, for us it is a meeting point with our clients and distributors, and with potential Spanish projects that may arise in the near future.
What offer do you come to this Show with?
We will show new versions of all our solutions included in our new Spider architecture, designed to operate with remote and distributed work environments, cloud computing, multi-platform distribution and perfect integration between multiple areas.
