José Mesas, general director of Tedial: “80 percent of our turnover comes from abroad”
On the verge of his participation in IBC and Broadcast 2011 (stand 3C13), José Mesas, general director of Tedial, analyzes in this interview the current situation of a company that has just celebrated ten years at the forefront of audiovisual content management, systems integration, design of production flows and control processes in the broadcast sector.
Tedial is an international high-tech company, located in the Andalusian Technology Park (PTA) in Malaga, specialized in product development and management of audiovisual content, system integration, design of production flows and control processes in the broadcast sector.
This year, Tedial celebrates its tenth anniversary, the result of the union of a group of university researchers and doctors (with extensive knowledge of the latest advances related to audiovisual information systems), with professionals from television management (knowledgeable about the needs of the sector).
As stated by José Mesas, its general director, “we are a unique type of company that was born from university research, with the aim of bringing business process management closer to multimedia assets, being useful for any organization that needs to archive, search or use video or audio recordings.”
"We develop our own advanced products, which interact with existing digital technologies to provide global, reliable and profitable solutions. Our commitment to R&D and our link with the University of Malaga are the basis of Tedial's innovative products, currently among the best on the market. Tedial is the market leader in Spain and Latin America, globally active, innovative, complete and highly functional," adds Mesas.
What projects is Tedial working on?
We currently have many jobs underway in several countries on up to three different continents. In Spain, the digitization that we are doing of the entire historical archive of Spanish Radio Television (RTVE) is especially significant, with more than one million video tapes of a multitude of formats. This is probably one of the largest digitalization and integration projects undertaken in the world in recent years.
In the Middle East, we landed for the first time in 2011, thanks to the contract with the public television of the Sultanate of Oman, Oman TV, to manage its digital archive and production flows for its new tapeless high definition (HD) system.
Other world-renowned companies in which we are currently developing projects are, for example, Chello Multicanal, the largest producer of thematic channels in Spain and Portugal, or Televisa (Mexico), the largest Spanish-speaking media consortium in the world.
Regarding our short-term work prospects, we have great expectations in new markets for the company, such as Egypt, Turkey, Iran, the Middle East (Qatar and Dubai), France and Morocco, where demos of our products are being tested.
What international projection does the company have?
A lot. Currently, 80 percent of our turnover comes from abroad, and it is a percentage that continues to rise. Tedial has distinguished itself since its creation by having an enormous international vocation. In fact, our main objectives for the coming years are international expansion, increasing brand awareness abroad and continuing to innovate to maintain leadership. Last year, Tedial opened its first office in the United Kingdom, in response to increased demand for our products in other countries. Our technology enjoys a great reputation around the world, which has led us to be in more than 50 companies on almost all continents.
Looking ahead to your participation in Broadcast 2011, what advantages do you appreciate from your participation in this Show?
Since its creation ten years ago, Tedial has been a firm defender of the need to participate in specialized fairs and events to make itself known in the market and to be able to show the reliability and competitiveness of its products. We are a fixture at all the leading international fairs in the broadcast market (in the United States, Europe and the Middle East). And that is why we think that being present at Broadcast 2011 is essential, as it brings the entire sector together in one place. It is a great opportunity to strengthen ties and make contacts with future clients, observe the evolution of the market, exchange experiences, consider alliances...
In addition, we will present new updates to our applications, starting with Ficus, the most proven and mature Business Process Manager in the broadcast industry, which allows companies to continue taking advantage of old existing systems with little integration capacity. The Media Process Manager (MPM), based on layered logic, in its latest version allows high-resolution formats such as DNxHD and HDCAM to be ingested directly into an Avid environment. Tarsys, our MAM system, incorporates HSM software, based on web services for database model management. Finally, Capture incorporates HSM software to streamline ingestion processes.
With all these new advances, Tedial seeks to increase the productivity of its clients, ensuring that they make their investment profitable in robust, widely scalable products capable of integrating with any other brand on the market.
