Ramon Mateu, who was director of Catalunya Ràdio and general director of the CCMA, dies
Mateu assumed the responsibility of leading the Catalunya Radio group of stations in the most complex stage of the public financing crisis.
Ramon Mateu, who was director of the Catalunya Ràdio group of stations between 2009 and 2012, general director of the Catalan Corporation for Audiovisual Media (CCMA) from 2010 to 2012 and director of Strategy and Brand at the corporation, died this February 1 at the age of 61.
Under his direction, Catalunya Ràdio received the Ondas Award in 2010 for its coverage of the snowfall in March of the same year.
Núria Llorach, the vice president and acting president of CCMA, highlighted that "Ramon Mateu assumed the responsibility of leading the group of Catalunya Radio stations in the most complex stage of the public financing crisis. His management contributed firmly to stabilizing and overcoming that situation and, later as corporate general director, he successfully directed" the first media group in Catalonia.
Mateo arrived at Catalunya Ràdio in 2009. Until then he was a delegate of the Antena 3 group in Catalonia and general director of New Projects at Uniprex, an Antena 3 company that manages the Onda Cero and Europa FM radio channels, which he joined in 2003 as general director. Previously, he had been the director of the media area of Planeta and had been CEO of Unión Ibérica de Radio. Between 1997 and 1998 he was deputy director of the TVE Production Center in Catalonia and between 1996 and 1997, director of Radio Nacional de España in Catalonia. Previously he had been director of News at Onda Cero in Catalonia, manager of the Association of Municipal Broadcasters (EMUCA), director of Communication at the Tarragona City Council and editor at several radio stations.
Furthermore, Mateu has been vice president of the Spanish Association of Commercial Radio and general secretary of the Catalan Association of Private Radio.
