Broadcast Pix Vox: automated production based on voice

Vox eliminates the need for an operator during live productions by detecting whether the microphone is being used and employing sophisticated software to reposition the camera or insert graphics. Vox integrates with Broadcast Pix's Fluent to create automatic video-audio tracking macros. These macros can be programmed to select camera presets, clips and animations, add or remove titles, and even run powerful compositions, such as up to six images. Several macros can be assigned to each microphone, and the selection criteria can be established according to the complexity of the broadcast or whether or not the technical director is in control.
Ken Swanton, president of Broadcast Pix, has assured that this new system “is a great advance in the profitability of production.”
Vox is already in use at Q-music, a radio network in Belgium and the Netherlands using up to a dozen cameras, four of them in the radio studio, controlled through VOX. Q-music has created several macros for each studio microphone. As a result, while the video follows the audio, there is a variety in the direction of commands (randomly selected by the system) to enrich the broadcast.
"It's easy to put a camera in a studio," said Rudi Wynants, an engineer at Q-music, "but it's not so easy to make it interesting for the viewer to watch. Vox makes it more dynamic by not giving the audience the feeling that everything is automated by computer. For normal operations, the system works completely independently."
Housed in a 1 RU chassis with eight microphone inputs, Vox includes control software for Panasonic and Sony robotic camera systems and connects to any Broadcast Pix system via an RS-232 serial cable. Multiple Vox boxes can be cascaded to support up to 104 microphones.
Vox can also be controlled from a laptop or from an Android device, iPad or iPhone.
