Mistika brings Tintin to life in 3D

Park Road Post carries out the digital intermediation and stereoscopic treatment of 'The Adventures of Tintin', directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, using Sgo's Mistika.

Park Road Post's colorist, David Hollingsworth, could not have been more explicit when commenting on the role played by Mistika, from Sgo, in the post-production of The Adventures of Tintin, the Secret of the Unicorn, film that premieres on December 21 in the United States. “I can't imagine another solution in a single digital intermediation system that could have allowed us such speed and flexibility,” said Hollingsworth.

All digital intermediation work and stereoscopy processes have been carried out with Mistika, including color correction, shaping, convergence adjustment and hand-offs between shots. Directed by Oscar winner Steven Spielberg, the film is based on the book series “The Adventures of Tintin” by Hergé, with Spielberg himself, Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy in the production.

One of the advantages of using Mistika was the possibility of monitoring all processes remotely from different locations. Mistika played a very important role, as speed was a crucial factor in making the approval process fluid, no matter where the different professionals involved were located at all times. Access to the different versions in process was quick, allowing us to intervene in the entire intermediation mechanism in an agile and direct way.

David Hollingsworth ha destacado que “la estructura abierta de la plataforma Mistika, ofrece un conjunto de herramientas rápidas y un flujo de trabajo basado en SAN significó poder trabajar con el material que suministraba Weta Digital tanto en 2D como en 3D al mismo tiempo a toda velocidad”.

La flexibilidad del sistema también significó que se podía llevar a cabo la gradación al mismo tiempo que el editor senior online Rob Gordon podía probar nuevos conformados en diferentes tomas, y el artista estereoscópico Meetal Gokul continuaba perfilando la convergencia y los trabajos estereoscópicos. Todo esto sucedía al mismo tiempo que se iba a aprobando el material en el extranjero.
