Panasonic and NBC Sports team up to broadcast the London Games in 3D
Panasonic and NBC Sports announce at CES 2012 an agreement to transmit images of the London 2012 Olympic Games in 3D to all licensed cable, satellite and telco audiovisual distributors. OBS will cover in 3D both the opening and closing ceremonies and a total of about 200 hours of different competitions
Panasonic Corporation has just announced that its American subsidiary, Panasonic of North America, and the NBC Sports group have closed an agreement to transmit images of the London 2012 Olympic Games in 3D to all licensed cable, satellite and telco audiovisual distributors.
Last year, Panasonic Corporation, in its usual role as official supplier of the Olympic Games, announced a strategic alliance with the International Olympic Committee and the host broadcaster Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to produce the Olympics in stereoscopic for the first time in history.
OBS will cover in 3D both the opening and closing ceremonies and a total of about 200 hours of different competitions such as athletics, gymnastics or swimming.
To do this, it will use Full HD 3D technology developed by Panasonic with special emphasis on the P2HD AG-3DP1 camcorders, with dual lenses and recording on solid-state memory cards, as well as the light and compact AG-3DA1.
Without a doubt, the broadcast of the 2012 London Games in 3D will mark a historical milestone as already happened with the emergence of color and high definition.
Joseph M. Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Panasonic Corporation of North America, has stated that “Panasonic's 3D experience, in alliance with NBC as the unsurpassed leader in Olympic Games coverage, will allow millions of viewers, fans of the world sporting event par excellence, an unprecedented experience by providing the three-dimensional sensation of international athletes.”
