Strong Hispanic American presence at Sundance
‘A cadeira do pai’, del brasileño Luciano Moura; ‘El último Elvis’, del argentino Armando Bo; ‘Violeta se fue a los cielos’, del chileno Andrés Wood; ‘Young & Wild’, de la chilena Marialy Rivas; ‘Madrid 1987’, de David Trueba; y ‘Luces Rojas’, de Rodrigo Cortés, son las películas que presentan directores hispanoamericanos.
Until January 29, Park City, the tourist city in Utah east of Salt Lake City, becomes the capital of independent cinema with the celebration of the twelfth edition of the Sundance Film Festival. Without a doubt, Sundance is one of the most important independent festivals in the world and a great showcase for young filmmakers.
The inauguration was carried out by The Queen of Versailles, a documentary directed by Laura Greenfield that reveals the ins and outs of the real estate and economic crisis in the United States reflected in the life of former billionaire David Siegel and his wife Jackie.
And, as the festival's founder, Robert Redford, assured during the opening, "many of the films at Sundance will reflect these difficult times... there is no paralysis here." Festival director John Cooper said the opening night entries reflect the strongest selection of scripts at a festival that prides itself on both launching careers and rewarding low-budget hits like Pequeña Miss Sunshine and the documentary An uncomfortable truth.
In total, more than a hundred productions are being screened these days.
Latin American presence
The Latin character is present once again at the Sundance Festival with a strong presence of Chilean productions.
Dad's chair, by Brazilian Luciano Moura; The last Elvis, by the Argentine Armando Bo; Violeta went to heaven, by the Chilean Andrés Wood; Young & Wild, by the Chilean Marialy Rivas; Madrid 1987, by David Trueba; and Red Lights, by Rodrigo Cortés, are the films that feature Hispanic American directors.
The Spanish director returns to the Sundance festival two years after the good taste he left in the mouth with Buried. Rodrigo Cortés has a new job, a thriller that has a luxury cast led by Robert de Niro and Sigourney Webber.
