Great technical display by TVE on the night of the Goya

For the broadcast of the ceremony, RTVE has moved its UM2 in high definition to the Municipal Conference Center of Madrid. A Kahuna table from Snell, five XT[2] servers from EVS in which more than 600 videos have been stored in each one and a digital intercom matrix from Riedel are just some of the elements that have made this great audiovisual spectacle possible.

Like every year, RTVE has dedicated itself to the great festival of Spanish cinema. TVE, RNE and RTVE.ES have broadcast the Goya Awards ceremony live.
Presented for the first time by Eva Hache, the ceremony was directed by Arantxa Écija with Emilio A. Pina in the executive production and Eduardo Arroyo and Cristina López in the development of the script.

On behalf of TVE, Antonia Prieto has been the executive producer and Carmen Marín has been the producer of a broadcast made by José María Sánchez Chiquito-Morón.

Fernando González and Daniel Chaves have developed a set set on the façade of a classic cinema, with Juan Carlos García responsible for the lighting and Javier Contreras, for the sound. Two GrandMA tables played an important role on the stage. MA Lighting (displayed by Cinelux) as well as a Vi6 Soundcraft for the PA sound in the room.

Post-production and graphic design have been developed at Imasblue, while Lightbox Entertainment has been in charge of the animation and El Igloo has been in charge of the assembly.

For the broadcast of the ceremony, RTVE has moved its UM2 in high definition to the Municipal Conference Center of Madrid. In total, the Corporation has had 21 cameras, including several cranes and hot heads (Scorpio and Egripment) with lengths between 6 and 11 meters as well as a robotic pan/tilt/zoom/focus “camouflaged” on the stage itself for frontal shots of the audience and a couple of radio frequency steadies. The majority of cameras used in this broadcast have been the Sony HDVF-C950.

Trust in EVS

Once again, TVE, the Spanish public state channel, has trusted in the stability and reliability of technology EVS using five XT[2] servers for the exclusive broadcast of the XXVI edition of the Goya Awards.

The high-definition mobile unit has been equipped with five XT[2] HD Multicam 10 servers to record high-definition content from the twenty cameras deployed on the red carpet and the auditorium. The large storage capacity and stability offered by the XT[2] servers have been essential for TVE to once again select EVS equipment to store all the audiovisual material that was launched live from there during the gala.

In these five XT[2] servers, more than 600 videos were stored on each server, including loops, effects, transitions and videos of nominees to be broadcast during the ceremony. For each award, a total of five synchronized videos have been released (photograph of the nominee, tail of the film, cover art and titles) divided into three XT[2].

Thanks to the EVS IPDirector content management tool and the IPDirector multi-channel control function, the five synchronized videos have been able to be launched from the three EVS servers, while four lines of backgrounds that were changing were launched, a unique feature on the market that makes this tool an essential element for live productions.

Este año, como novedad, se ha incluido el módulo IPEdit de EVS, la solución de edición de vídeo integrada en el IPDirector, para arreglar distintos clips, entradas y salidas, audio y hacer ediciones básicas desde el propio servidor sin necesidad de renderizar. Una nueva herramienta de EVS que los realizadores de la gala de los Goya han apreciado por la rapidez y agilidad que les ha proporcionado a la hora de hacer los ajustes previos a la gala.

La realización se ha llevado a cabo desde una Kahuna de Snell con tres remotos sobre la misma electrónica, mientras que el sonido de la retransmisión se ha ejecutado desde una Stagetec Aurus manejando cerca de 90 canales.

Throughout the ceremony a digital intercom matrix from Artist has played a prominent role. Riedel, thus keeping the numerous technical personnel deployed by RTVE for this event in contact at all times. This system consists of a fiber bus-type network that provides a decentralized infrastructure for your audio and intercom applications, resolving critical situations in large-scale events like this one.
