Harmonic muestra en IP&TV World Forum 2012 sus soluciones para transcodificación y distribución multidispositivo

Harmonic is demonstrating its ProMedia family of software solutions for the creation and distribution of high-quality video with live streaming, live-to-VOD and other VoD services for TVs, PCs, tablets, smartphones and other IP-connected devices.

Coincidiendo con IP&TV World Forum 2012, que tiene lugar estos días en Londres, Harmonic is demonstrating its ProMedia family of software solutions for the creation and distribution of high-quality video with live streaming, live-to-VOD and other VoD services for TVs, PCs, tablets, smartphones and other IP-connected devices.
ProMedia offers a wide range of possibilities such as transcoding or packaging. This software solution includes: ProMedia Capture, ProMedia Live, ProMedia Carbon, ProMedia Package, and ProMedia Origin.

Harmonic también está mostrando en IP&TV World Forum Electra 9200, su codificador de vídeo multicodec y multiformato que simultáneamente da soporte a broadcast, móvil y formatos webs en un chasis 1-RU.

This integrated platform for broadcast and multi-screen provides a flexible, open and scalable architecture that easily integrates with existing broadcast infrastructure and enables new multi-screen services to be offered while reducing investment and operating expenses.

On the other hand, Harmonic is demonstrating in London MediaGrid, the scalable Ethernet-based shared storage system optimized for digital media, which offers the power of the SAN with the simplicity of a NAS. MediaGrid provides high performance for digital media workflows.

Latest projects

Con motivo de IP&TV World Forum 2012, Harmonic ha dado a conocer algunos de los últimos proyectos en los que ha intervenido como el servicio IPTV y OTT Billi del operador belga Alpha. Las soluciones de procesamiento y almacenamiento de Harmonic le han permitido ofrecer de manera rentable servicios de vídeo de alta definición en múltiples dispositivos conectados. Esta instalación se basa en una codificación SD y HD en MPEG-2 y MPEG-4 AVC (H.264). Para la codificación en vivo de IPTV, se emplean procesadores de Harmonic que ofrecen una re-codificación para 60 servicios en SD o 20 en HD por cada unidad de rack (con un consumo mínimo).

Harmonic's adaptive transcoding and streaming solutions allow multiple H.264 video streams to be transcoded and packaged at a variable bit rate depending on the device being addressed. VoD content is delivered using a Harmonic transcoding solution and an Ethernet-based storage system optimized for digital media, along with the ProMedia Origin HTTP streaming video server. The system employs industry standard protocols, including Apple HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming, to prepare and publish live, VoD and nPVR to multiple devices supporting different encryption methods and CDNs.

Another of the facilities that Harmonic has made public is the ProMedia Live platform for transcoding implemented in the main Swiss telecommunications operator, Swisscom. In this installation, NMX Service Manager Digital has also been included to provide high definition video streams for IPTV and mobile TV services, allowing Swisscom to increase the number of live channels it delivers significantly. ProMedia transcodes SD and HD content into the most popular mobile and web formats in real time, providing Swisscom subscribers with a reliable, high-quality viewing experience on any device. ProMedia live transcoders are managed by NMX Digital Service Manager, powerful software that provides full control over the entire network, with the ability to support 2,000 streams and 250 devices.

Finally, the Portuguese Zon has also chosen Harmonic's portfolio of transcoding solutions to improve the services available in its ZON Online service. ZON has relied on ProStream 4000 and ProMedia Carbon transcoding.
