If a few years ago Sony focused its message on high definition, later on 3D, this time it was the turn of 4K.

4K resolution, about four times higher than HD, focuses the attention of Sony during his time in Las Vegas, with his F65 digital cinematography camera as the star. Since its actual introduction into the market at the beginning of the year, as confirmed by Alec Shaphiro, senior vice president of Sony, 100,000 units have been sold, with a similar number already on order.

This Sunday we were able to attend the preview presentation of several clips from productions that were shot with the F65. Among other screenings, we saw an eight-minute short film by cinematographer Curtis Clark, as well as some spectacular images from Tv Globo of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival (Brazil). Fernando Bittencourt, director of engineering at Globo, has assured that "the experience with the F65 at the Carnival has been quite a test for this camera, due to the infinite number of movements, details, color...". Globo is using the F65 both in fiction and in large-scale serials and live events such as carnival.
Shapiro also confirmed that the film After Earth, starring Will and Jaden Smith, was filmed in extreme conditions of humidity, temperature and action with the F65.

At the press conference called by Sony, the Japanese manufacturer also announced other interesting projects that have been carried out in recent months with its technology. The close collaboration with NBC for the Olympic coverage in which the intelligent integration of MediaBackbone solutions will have a lot to say along with its switchers, cameras and monitors, is a good example of this.

Another example is found in the Microsoft production studio, which has just completed a multi-camera studio to service audiovisual productions within the multinational.

Other examples of Sony solutions in broadcasters and production companies around the world can be found in China's 3D channel CTV, Sky, ESPN 3D, without forgetting the pioneering experience launched by Sony together with IMAX and Discovery in the new 3Dnet channel.

Sony has announced at NAB the expansion of the NXCAM range with the new “4K ready” Full-HD super slow motion camcorder. The NEX-FS700 offers flexible, creative and quality recording options for the workflows of today… and tomorrow. April 11, 2012

Sony once again pushes the boundaries of creativity with the new NEX-FS700 Full-HD Super Slow Motion 4K-ready camcorder; This is the latest addition to the range of NXCAM camcorders with interchangeable E-mount lenses.

This new compact model has been created for beautiful, high-quality recordings and has a super slow motion function capable of capturing up to 960 frames per second. It also offers a host of creative-enhancing recording options and styles, complemented by a new and improved ergonomic design for a production tool that will integrate seamlessly into a wide variety of workflows.

The NEX-FS700, with its super slow motion mode, is ideal for music videos, low-budget films and advertising, as well as sports, special effects and even industrial and scientific productions. The camcorder offers Full-HD quality at 120 and 240 frames per second in burst mode and at 480 fps and 960 fps with reduced resolution.

This camcorder uses a new ExmorTM Super 35mm CMOS sensor with a 4K resolution of 4096 x 2160. The image sensor has 8.4 million active pixels (11.6 total) for HD recording and can output uncompressed 4:2:2 HD output via HDMI or HD-SDI, as well as 1080/50p, 60p in 3G HD-SDI. The new high-speed chip is optimized for motion image recording and offers high sensitivity, low noise and minimal aliasing. Sony is planning a firmware update that will allow the NEX-FS700 to transmit a bitstream in the form of 4K RAW data via 3G HD-SDI.

Cameramen will get the most out of the ND filters built into this equipment and its new optical ND filter. Filters include Clear, 1/4 (2 stops), 1/16 (4 stops), and 1/64 (6 stops) positions.

The NEX-FS700's HD-SDI 3G and HDMI connectors transmit Full-HD content at 50p and 60p, plus standard HD frame rates with integrated audio and timecode. The flexibility of the digital ports allows it to be paired with almost any external recorder. The camcorder can switch between 50 and 60 Hz so you can work in any geographic location without the limitations of PAL/NTSC recording.

Users can save up to 99 camera profile settings to a memory card and copy them to different cameras. Compatible media includes SD cards and Memory Stick PRO duoTM, as well as Sony's optional HXR-FMU128 Flash memory unit that attaches to the camcorder.
The flexibility of the NXCAM E-mount allows you to adapt a wide variety of lenses using very affordable adapters.
