A year ago, Canal+ launched itself into the challenge of distributing content on the Internet. A year later they have ten million views.

The multi-device content distribution service Yomvi celebrates one year consolidating its growth as an excellent service so that Canal+ subscribers can watch the plus content wherever they want and however they want.

Now, in addition, Yomvi has a new commercial offer aimed at new customers to become an online video club accessible to everyone that includes the best movies and series, and also incorporates the big League and Champions League matches live. New customers will also be able to select what they want to see at the Box Office and pay only for that content, without additional fees.

A year ago, Canal+ launched itself into the challenge of distributing content on the Internet. A year later they have ten million views.

Pablo Romero, content director of Yomvi, has recognized that "we have made our way by jumping into the pool, entering unexplored territories. It is comforting to see how giants like Sky in the United Kingdom or Comcast in the US, are months later doing the same thing as you, showing that we were on the right path. But what gives us the most confidence is that we have seen a legion of users who use the services we have in place."

Romero assures that the main challenge has been “to gain the trust of the content providers, with complete security, to connect their interests with those of the users.”

“This trust, thanks to excellent technological and business development, has meant that content providers have become involved in the project,” added Romero.

Now the challenge is to think "from the point of view of the Internet, not with parameters of the old television industry. We are adapting Yomvi to the operating parameters of the Internet," says Yomvi's content director.

Romero, coinciding with this first anniversary, has released details of the service on iPad and has announced the launch in the coming weeks for Mac OS.

Diego Corraliza, director of Digital Business at PRISA Tv, has told Panorama Audiovisual that "the development of Yomvi has met all of our objectives as a loyalty-building product for our satellite subscribers. Consumption has been extraordinary, on simultaneously connected devices, especially when it comes to football broadcasts... From a technological point of view, we have managed to have a totally secure platform that has given content providers full confidence. Security has been a priority to be able to offer a premium catalog with complete guarantees. The biggest challenge is that the linear part was protected, the VoD is easier to protect. That has given us great experience in events and attendance. In a real Madrid match we can gather half of the traffic at that time in Spain.

From the point of view of the networks, Corraliza assures that "with the high quality that we are offering, we do not find that the current 3G networks are a brake on mobility. However, the infrastructure of public networks in access to the home can be improved, especially from the point of view of ensuring concurrency."

In terms of usability, Corraliza recognizes that there is still much to do in this area and highlights that the user experience they want to move towards is the one developed for Yomvi on iPad with a web experience that we will try to replicate on all devices.

For his part, Fernando Enrile, director of Digital Television services at PRISA Tv, admits that in this first year, the main problem has been the public Internet networks: "the perception that the user has when contracting a nominal bandwidth is evident in cases of concurrency in which it is clear that they do not have the width that the operator promises. For example, our soccer product is a concurrent product, more broadcast than unicast, which would require better development of public Internet networks by part of some suppliers.”
