The new Amazonas 3 will provide Ka band capacity to Media Networks
Media Networks will introduce innovative Ka Band satellite internet service in South America this year. Ka Band technology makes it viable to commercialize satellite internet for the residential segment with a service that will be available in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in the second half of 2013
This Thursday, February 7 Hispasat will put the new Amazonas 3 satellite into orbit, which will allow Media Networks offer wholesale satellite internet service in Ka Band in South America.
The project includes an investment of more than 250 million dollars, which includes satellite space, infrastructure and equipment for two new teleports, which are already being built in Chile and the United States. Both hubs will be controlled and monitored remotely from the Network Operation Center located at the regional teleport in Lima, guaranteeing the best management of both infrastructures. In its first stage, the project will benefit populations in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile.
“The launch of the Amazonas 3 satellite marks a very important milestone in the project that Media Networks has been developing to provide leading operators in South America with satellite internet service for homes,” said Fernando Blácido, Satellite Internet Planning Manager at Media Networks.
Media Networks, the main Ku-band satellite Internet provider in the region, became a pioneer in Latin America in the wholesale distribution of I-Sat in Ka-band in 2012, when it successfully introduced this service in Mexico.
Media Networks is a B2B unit of Telefónica Digital that provides wholesale pay TV and satellite internet services, audiovisual solutions, content generation and ad sales to companies and operators in Spain, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Central America and Peru, where its regional teleport is located.
