Hispasat and Intelsat agree to extend the capacity of the Amazonas Nexus
After a first agreement signed in 2019, Hispasat e Intelsat They seal a new alliance that includes all the available capacity over the United States and Brazil, as well as part of the Amazonas Nexus capacity over the northern Atlantic corridor.
Thanks to this, Intelsat will offer internet connection services on airplanes in these high air traffic areas, as well as corporate and cellular network extension services.
Adam Troy, vice president of Network Partnerships at Intelsat, stated that "our long and successful collaboration with Hispasat in the provision of services on commercial flights, together with the excellent coverage and flexibility in orbit of the Amazonas Nexus, has led us to sign this agreement that strategically reinforces our offer in the American and Brazilian commercial aviation market, as well as in mobility and network markets."
Amazonas Nexus es un satélite de alto rendimiento and innovative features that will replace Amazonas 2 in the orbital position of 61o West. The new satellite, which was launched on February 6 from Cape Canaveral, will have a payload especially dedicated to providing internet connection in mobility environments (planes and ships). In addition to other applications, such as corporate communications or the deployment of cellular networks. Likewise, it will embark a Transparent Digital Processor latest generation. This is a technological innovation that will substantially increase the flexibility of the satellite and facilitate its adaptation to changes that may occur in demand during its useful life.
Along with this long-term agreement, which has been expanded with Intelsat, the Amazonas Nexus project has two other strategic clients. Overall, Hispasat has reached commercial agreements that represent more than 60% of capacity hired on this new satellite. This is a notable milestone in a sector where short-term agreements predominate. This highlights the growth in demand for satellite mobility and corporate services on the American continent. In fact, it is expected that in the period 2021-2031 the demand for capacity for air connectivity services will multiply by twelve, according to Euroconsult 2022.
