EXIM will finance the launch and initial operations of Hispasat's new satellite, Amazonas Nexus

The board of directors of the Export-Import Bank (EXIM) of the United States has granted a loan of 80.7 million dollars for the Amazonas Nexus project of Hispasat.

The amount will be used to finance the launch service, launch insurance and initial operations in orbit of the satellite. Amazon Nexus, which will reach space at the end of 2022 aboard a launch vehicle Falcon 9 (supplied by company SpaceX).

This operation is the first linked to the satellite sector that EXIM It has been carrying out since 2015 and completes the financing of the space segment of this new Hispasat mission. Previously, in May 2020, the operator had signed the financing for the manufacture of the satellite with BPI France and a pool from four financial entities for an amount of 129 million euros.

Keys to the Amazon Nexus

Designed with an innovative architecture, it combines Ku and Ka bands to optimize communications and multiply available capacity for commercial use. The latest Hispasat satellite will have, as a novelty, a Transparent Digital Processor of the latest generation (DTP), a technological advance that will allow the satellite's payload to be digitally processed and increase its flexibility in orbit.

This new satellite, which will serve as a replacement for the Amazonas 2, is being built by Thales Alenia Space and will have coverage over the entire American continent, the northern and southern corridors of the Atlantic (areas of large air and maritime traffic) and Greenland.

Long term agreements

Hispasat has already reached several commercial agreements for the long-term capacity lease with operators and service providers in the government and connectivity fields for the aviation sector. These agreements represent the hiring of almost 30% of the shipped capacity in the Amazon Nexus.
