In parallel with the negotiation of a new program called Creative Europe, the MEDIA Program continues to call for its different aid in the fields of Training, Development, Distribution and Promotion.

MEDIA Program

The European Commission is currently negotiating, together with the rest of the community institutions, a new Program called Creative Europe, which will gather the experience of the previous MEDIA, MEDIA MUNDUS and CULTURA Programs to achieve a model, if not new, then fundamentally revised, and with the possible appearance of a new financial instrument, complementary to other existing community instruments within the Structural Funds or in the Competitiveness and Innovation Program, and which could have a transversal implementation and a very limited impact on others. activities in sectors in which financial intermediaries have little implementation, as is the case of the cultural and creative sectors.

At the same time, the MEDIA Program continues to call for its different aid in the fields of Training, Development, Distribution and Promotion, thereby covering successive years and not generating a “vacuum” for companies in defining their financing strategies at the community level.

From the MEDIA Desk Spain Office draw attention to new MEDIA Calls that, in their validity period, are already covering subsequent years:

  • Call for proposals (EACEA/25/12 – MEDIA 2007) for Development, distribution, promotion and training — Support for transnational distribution of European films — “Automatic” support system 2013. Again, in this line of support for independent film distributors, dates after 2013 are included. This “automatic” support system works in two phases: creation of a potential fund, proportional to the number of tickets sold for non-national European films in the States participating in the program during the reference year (2012), up to a fixed maximum limit per film, which will be adjusted for each country, and reinvestment (the fund thus generated by each company must be reinvested no later than October 1, 2014 in 3 modules: co-production, acquisition of distribution rights and publishing expenses.
  • Call for proposals (EACEA/39/12 – MEDIA 2007) for Development, distribution, promotion and training — Support for the digitalization of European cinemas. In this case, in which the indirect costs related to the acquisition of digital projectors in accordance with the applicable international standards can be financed, which are going to be installed in theaters that meet all the eligibility criteria, and the subsidy can be requested for a single projector per screen and a maximum of three screens per cinema room, there is also a clear time reference, stating that the projector must be acquired between the date of submission of the application and December 31, 2014.

From the MEDIA Desk Office in Spain, they insist on sending a message of calm regarding the future and continuity of MEDIA aid to European professionals and companies in the audiovisual sector.
