Emilio A. Pina, new general director of the Film Academy

Pina, que sustituye en el cargo a José Garasino, es un profesional del cine “por dentro” con muchos años de experiencia en la Academia, casa con la que colabora activamente desde 2003.

The Board of Directors of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain has appointed executive producer and production director Emilio A. Pina as general director of the institution, replacing José Garasino. This film veteran and former member of the Board of Directors of the Academy, of which he was second vice president in the shortlist he formed with Álex de la Iglesia and Icíar Bollain from June 2009 to April 2011, was born in Madrid in 1962.

Pina is an “inside” film professional with many years of experience at the Academy, a house with which he has actively collaborated since 2003 and where he has worked on the renewal and organization of the Goya Awards ceremony, whose executive production he has assumed in four editions – (2013, 2012, 2008 and 2007).

He began as a freelancer in the direction and production departments for the production companies Pedro Masó P.C. and Nickel Odeón Dos. He finished this stage specializing as executive producer and production director for one of the leading companies in the sector at that time, BocaBoca Producciones, and as an independent producer with his own company, Quiroptero Films.

Member of the ADPCE (Association of Film Production Directors of Spain), of which he was one of its founders, he has participated in numerous films and television series such as The time between seams (still unpublished), The protected, The commissioner y All men are equal, among others.
