Tom Mockridge: from the Murdoch empire to running Virgin Media
Mockridge will be the new CEO of the British Virgin Media, replacing Neil Berkett.
Tom Mockridge, former CEO of News International (the press division of the Murdoch empire) will be the new CEO of the British Virgin Media, replacing Neil Berkett.
The American Liberty Global has chosen to put Mockridge in charge of the company that it has just acquired in an operation valued at about 23.3 billion dollars and that is scheduled to be completed in a couple of months.
Mockridge will report directly to Mike Fries, president of Liberty Global and will oversee the digital television, telephone and internet businesses. On pay TV he will face his previous company, News Corp, the main shareholder of BSkyB.
Mockridge spent 22 years at News Corp, starting in the newspaper division in Australia before going on to run Sky Italia from 2003 to 2011, as well as News Corporation's European television department from 2008. He was also a non-executive director and vice-chairman of BSkyB between April 2012 and January this year.
