Sony PMW-300, the popular EX-3 already has a successor
It is the first semi-shoulder camcorder on the market with three 1/2″ Full HD Exmor CMOS sensors and MPEG HD422 recording at 50 Mbit/s.
a few months ago Sony presented the PMW-200, heir to the EX-1 and EX-1R, capable of recording in XDCAM at 35Mbit/s as well as at 50Mbit/s in MPEG HD 4:2:2, now this scheme is also transferred to the successor of the EX-3, the PMW-300.
The new PMW-300, equipped with three 1/2″ Full HD Exmor CMOS sensors, promises to deliver incredible images even in low-light environments. The camcorder also includes Sony's advanced signal processing technology, which effectively suppresses noise, resulting in much clearer images.
It is an ideal device for broadcast producers and corporate event camera operators looking for a flexible semi-shoulder camcorder capable of adapting to the most diverse production environments.
The PMW-300 is capable of recording HD material at 50 Mbit/s in MPEG HD422, compatible with broadcasting standards from around the world, including those of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU/EBU) on HD broadcast pickup, for use in long-duration programs. Its high bit rate ensures excellent capture of fast-moving subjects, while the chroma subsampling function is perfect for a variety of video encoding areas, such as effects and green chroma key work. Additionally, the camcorder can be upgraded in the future with Sony's revolutionary XAVC codec.
It features the same EX-mount interchangeable lens system as the PMW-EX3, making it compatible with a wide variety of 1/2″ and 2/3″ optics. Two types of lens packages are planned for the PMW-300: the first has a 14x zoom and the second 16x. Both lenses have a focus ring, which allows quick switching from auto to manual focus.
The 3.5″ color LCD viewfinder with HD resolution (960x540 pixels) allows precise focus for recording in HD; On the other hand, the 8-pin connector for remote control and multi-camera work allows the PMW-300 to be used in 3D configurations and high-end camera systems.
Its HD-SD/SDI and HDMI outputs allow you to connect the PMW-300 not only to broadcasting infrastructures, but also to consumer equipment with HDMI input. Timecode and genlock interfaces allow use in multi-camera environments and 3D setups. The 8-pin remote control connector allows adjustment from a separately sold remote control.
The camcorder has a standard 1080/25p recording mode that offers a wide variety of recording options, and also drops down to 720/25 to enable slow motion up to 2.5x.
Innovative design
This camcorder has been designed with an innovative semi-shoulder design with rotating handle that allows for comfortable recording for long periods. Its magnesium metal chassis ensures the robustness of the camcorder which, like its predecessor PMW-EX3, is capable of coping with the most difficult production environments.
As with Sony's other solid-state
Finally, Sony has confirmed that it is working on an optional wireless adapter that will improve proxy recording, wireless transfer, Wi-Fi viewing and metadata entry.
The PMW-300 can be equipped with accessories such as those from Sony's UWP pro audio range to give the user a world-class experience. It will have a 6x zoom, currently in development.
