German broadcaster Nobeo has installed Riedel A/V signal distribution and communications equipment in its exclusive @-car mobile unit intended for Web TV, streaming applications or any production where space is limited.

Riedel Nobeo @-car

Riedel has announced that German broadcaster Nobeo has integrated Riedel's MediorNet Compact real-time media network, Artist digital matrix intercom and Performer digital party line systems into its new dedicated “@-car” production vehicle that has been designed for live Internet broadcasting.

The Riedel equipment has allowed Nobeo to carry out high-quality and flexible signal distribution and communications in a compact and versatile mobile production unit. Sono Studiotechnik GMBH has been in charge of designing and integrating the @-car to accommodate it for Nobeo.

“We had already used Riedel's Artist system successfully on our 16-camera mobile unit, so choosing Riedel's MediorNet for the @-car was not a difficult decision,” comments Guido Amann, CTO at Nobeo. "In addition to meeting all of our size, weight and performance specifications, the MediorNet system supports all necessary signals in a single 3RU box, as well as facilitating quick setup. This system is a perfect fit for talk show production, live TV reporting, sporting events, press conferences, live webcasts, concert production and simply streaming."

The Nobeo @-car is equipped with a combination of broadcast equipment and specific IT components that together offer extensive capability for multi-camera productions using up to six cameras. Thus, within the traditional television sector, the @-car serves as a complement to the larger mobile units typically used. However, the @-car's individual capabilities mean it is valuable as a stand-alone unit, not only for Web TV and live streaming applications, but also for any production where space is limited or where the technical requirements are simple.

The MediorNet Compact PRO system that has been installed in the @-car supports twelve HD-SDI inputs and four HD-SDI outputs. The mobile unit is also equipped with an Artist 32 digital matrix intercom system and a Performer digital party line, along with Riedel control panels, tool belts and professional headsets. The Sono Studiotechnik has also provided Nobeo with one hundred meters of Riedel's Pure XTR-Q fiber cable. MediorNet users working on the @-car can send any incoming signal to any output, or even multiple outputs, simply by pressing the mouse button or with a router control system. A MediorNet Stagebox with fiber optic cable, which is located in the mobile unit or can be used elsewhere, further simplifies cabling once at the production location.

With social media becoming increasingly important and the ability to provide video increasing in value, small and medium-sized businesses and smaller events are now taking advantage of the @-car's ability to carry out smaller scale productions at a reasonable price. The @-car allows operators to perform signal encoding on various streams, as well as file-based recording and transmission of the signal to the Internet via inter-network protocol uplink. Within the 5 meter mobile unit are two workstations that support the creation of the final visual signal, along with an additional multifunctional workstation for encoding, uplinking and similar tasks.
