The closure of Canal Nou is now a reality: the Valencian Parliament has approved the closure of the regional channel only with the absolute majority of the PP. The Popular Party faced the entire opposition in a tense plenary session that coincided this Wednesday with the concentration of numerous Valencian radio and television workers as a sign of protest.

Yesterday afternoon the Generalitat Valenciana published the Law voted a few hours earlier in the regional parliament that puts an end to 24 years of Canal Nou. The haste of the publication, the usual thing is that the Official Gazette of the Valencian Community collects what was approved a day before, denotes the rush of Alberto Fabra's government to liquidate the regional channel as soon as possible.

But when will the blackout occur? Following the step taken by the regional parliament, the Generalitat must now dismiss the board of directors and appoint the liquidators of the company who will from now on be responsible for the issuance and termination of the company.

It seems more likely that the end of the broadcast will occur once the labor authority approves the termination ERE that will mean the dismissal of the chain's nearly 1,700 workers. The process could well be extended, since the law establishes a 30-day negotiation process.

On the other hand, the closure of Valencian radio and television could wait until the Christmas advertising campaign concludes.
El presidente del Comité de Empresa, Vicent Mifsud, ha destacado que los trabajadores “no quieren cortar las emisiones” y será “el Gobierno” el que tenga que tomar la decisión y “asumir la responsabilidad”. “Tal y como están actuando nos tememos que en cualquier momento puedan cerrar las emisiones”, manifestó Mifsud.

Mifsud aseguró que intentarán mantener las emisiones tanto como puedan y que permanecerán en el Centro de Producción de Programas de Burjassot todo el tiempo que se les permita.
