'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' arrives in theaters with Dolby Atmos sound
The Dolby Atmos version will be available in original version, 7 dubbed versions and 12 subtitled versions in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and will feature a mix of 2D, 3D and 3D HFR image formats.
The long-awaited second part of the trilogy The Hobbit, by Peter Jackson, comes to theaters with Dolby Atmos sound.
Gilbert Lake, sound technician on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, has assured that “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was presented in Dolby Atmos. It opened so many new doors for us in terms of using sound to tell the story and offered such a realistic experience that we knew it had to be a part of this new film as well. The goal of the sound team is to make the audience believe that they are on their own journey through Middle-earth with Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and the dwarves. Dolby Atmos delivers a soundscape so realistic you can practically feel the whistling of an arrow brushing against your face or feel the fierce breath of a dragon on your shoulders.”
In Spain, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug can be seen in Dolby Atmos in these theaters: Center Splau, Ocine, Cinesa Diagonal Mar Barcelona, Cinesa La Maquinista Barcelona, Cinesa Equinoccio Madrid, Cinesa Nassica Madrid, Cinesa Méndez Alvaro Madrid, Cinesa Parc Vallés Tarrasa, Balmes Multicines and Full HD Barcelona.

Dolby Atmos unlocks the potential of sound in storytelling by allowing directors to easily place or move specific sounds anywhere in the theater. The result is what big screen fans have described as virtual reality sound and the most captivating and realistic experience they have ever had with cinema sound.
Introduced in April 2012, Dolby Atmos has been very well received by all the major Hollywood studios, 6 Oscar-winning directors and 11 Oscar-winning sound technicians, among others. More than 400 screens with Dolby Atmos have already been installed or are planned to be installed in 33 countries with more than 100 display partners. Additionally, more than 85 films from 10 different countries have already been released or are scheduled to be released in Dolby Atmos since the first film debuted in June 2012.
