NBC Universal opts for Promise and Blackmagic technology for a new 4K environment

LX.TV, a division of NBC Universal, has increased its RAW disk space by 1,700% with VTrack, reaching 912TB in a single rack. For capture, they will adopt Blackmagic 4K cameras.

LX.TV, a division of NBC Universal, which produces specialized lifestyle and entertainment content such as the series George to the Rescue, has upgraded its storage to prepare for a 4K post-production environment. Looking for a solution with massive capacity and high bandwidth, LX.TV found the technology of Promise and the VTrak J930.

The solution has increased LX.TV's storage capacity by 1700% and thanks to the dense J930s VTrak, which offer up to 240TB of capacity in each unit, it has managed to store up to 918TB in a single rack.

In addition, VTrak has meant an increase in speed, facilitating the transition of LX.TV to a 4K workflow with the new cameras of Blackmagic.

Mike Fernández, head of post-production at LX.Tv, noted that "we want to be ready for 4K, and prepared for the future of our workflows, especially in order to operate with the new Blackmagic 4K cameras. Therefore, we are looking at the VTrak J930 high-density solution for greater bandwidth in less than half the rack space, Final Cut Pro X for 4K video editing and the use of LevelsBeyond for a digital asset management.
