Thomson strengthens its OTT solutions at NAB

Among other proposals, it will show a solution for Ultra High Definition playout with HEVC compression.

Broadcasters face challenges such as delivering more multi-format content and services with cost-effective, bandwidth efficiency without compromising the high HD image quality that viewers expect on every platform and device.

And NAB 2014, Thomson Video Networks will demonstrate a series of innovations aimed at enhancing the viewer experience while maximizing video quality with the available bandwidth.

Among other proposals, it will show a solution for Ultra High Definition playout with HEVC compression; video compression systems for DTH, cable and terrestrial (ATSC, ISDB-Tb and DVB), reinforced with Networks Management System; new solutions for fixed and mobile contribution; increased coding and transcoding density and flexibility for multiscreen, IPTV and OTT services; and the HEVC solution for file-based and live delivery.

Its playout system is now reinforced with the VS700 HEVC ViBE encoder and the Sapphire MPEG stream server, which allows broadcasters to distribute Ultra HD content on their networks.

In conjunction with the ViBE VS 700, Media Flex v3.0 promises a 40% improvement in terms of channel density allowing the ViBE VS7000 to process up to 448 SD or 80 HD in a single frame.
