The acoustic enclosures JBL Professional were selected, once again, to provide sound for the annual Grammy Awards gala, which this year celebrated its 56th edition. JBL Vertec line arrays were responsible for the direct sound reinforcement system at the Staples auditorium in Los Angeles. Additionally, a 5.1 surround studio monitoring system was used in the television committee room, with JBL LSR6300 series monitors.

The annual Grammy broadcast, hosted by The Recording Academy, was carried by the CBS Television Network, live on HDTV and in 5.1 surround sound. More than 28.5 million viewers followed this year's broadcast.

This edition was presented by LL Cool J and included performances by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Madonna, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Kety Perry and others. Mcklemore and Ryan Lewis won Best Artist, Lorde took Best Song for “Royals” and Daft Punk won Best Album of the Year for “Get Lucky,” in addition to two other Grammy Awards.

For its part, the Lexicon brand, belonging to the Harman group, also won an award: a technical Grammy, which is awarded to people or companies that have made contributions of outstanding technical importance to the recording sector.

TK Audiotek company supplied the main sound system for the awards ceremony. This included four line arrays of 12 Vertec VT4889 each and 2 arrays of 6 VT4880A subwoofers, each. Additionally, 12 VRX932 constant curvature speakers were placed as reinforcement for the first rows.

The Staples auditorium also has a permanent JBL Vertec line array system that the ATK company also used. This system has 8 arrays of between 11 and 13 amplified JBL VT4889DP-DA boxes each, plus two filler clusters with four VT4889DP-DA respectively, specifically positioned to cover the last rows. The system also includes four subwoofer arrays, with six VT4880As each.

In the television committee room, Grammy Awards Audio Director Michael Abbott, along with recording academy executives, relied on five JBL LSR6328P studio monitors to hear the event mix in real time. "Attention to detail is always essential in Grammy broadcasts and this year's awards were no different. Thanks to the precision and RMC technology of the JBL LSR6300, we were able to hear every subtlety of the performances and the 6300 series gave us exactly what we needed," said Abbot.
