Roland Systems Group expands its Digital Snake offering with the new S-2416
This new member of the Digital Snake family expands the range by offering 24 inputs and 16 analog outputs as well as 8 AES/EBU digital inputs/outputs for a total of 32 inputs and 24 outputs.
The robust 4U rack chassis has been designed for both touring and fixed installation applications. The analog inputs/outputs use Neutrik connectors. Each input offers 3 color LED indicators that indicate at a glance; phantom power, clip, and signal presence. The AES/EBU ports on the rear are offered in a D-sub 25-pin connector that allows direct connection to other types of audio devices such as speaker processors, amplifiers or other digital devices.
The S-2416 is the first Digital Snake capable of cascading, making I/O expansion possible up to 40x40 channels. Simply activating the “Cascade Mode” switch allows the additional connection of another REAC Digital Snake such as the S-1608. In turn, this function allows for more complex and flexible V-Mixer systems.
The S-2416 supports 24-bit 96 kHz, 48 kHz, or 44.1 kHz when placed as the Master position in a Digital Snake system. One Word clock output and input allows it to be the master clock for another unit when using the AES/EBU outputs/inputs. The microphone preamps can be controlled remotely using any V-Mixer, R-1000 or S-4000R using the RS-232 port. Control via USB is also possible using the S-4000RCS software for Mac or Windows.
The connectivity of the S-2416 is based on REAC – Roland’s Ethernet Audio Communication, a low latency protocol and high quality sound transmission. Products using REAC technology are installed every day in concert halls and are used in high-end productions around the world. The 24-bit, 40x40 channel REAC protocol delivers digital audio over a lightweight, easy-to-install Cat5e/6 cable. REAC technology is immune to external induced noises, hums and buzzes typically found in analog systems. The REAC family of products is diverse and includes digital consoles, personal monitor mixers and multi-channel recorders/players, all of which are easy to install and use (plug-and-play).
The Roland S-2416 will be available during the second quarter of 2014.
