EVS commemorates two decades of technological and business successes at NAB

Twenty years after its founding by Pierre Lhoest and Laurent Minguet, EVS now has a customer base of over a thousand, and its systems are used by more than 16,000 operators worldwide.

Gone is 1994 when Pierre Lhoest and Laurent Minguet founded a small company in Belgium dedicated to exploring the, at that time very nascent, market for major sports broadcasts.

Today, as Joop Janssen, current CEO of EVS, “the generalization of EVS systems in all major sporting events around the world, not only sports but also entertainment.” And there is no doubt that the slow motion concept during these two decades has been linked to EVS.

Coinciding with NAB 2014, EVS is remembering these two decades at the forefront of technological innovation these days. Janssen recalled that EVS technology has marked the first High Definition replays at the Sydney Olympic Games, the emergence of EVS digital systems for newsrooms in 2003, the generalization since 2005 of the XT servers, in many cases integrated with the IP Director suite... or already this year the first 4K replays by Fox Sport.

XS Server

At NAB 2014 EVS is unveiling its new XS server that offers unprecedented speed and flexibility for studio ingest and production environments with rapid response. Its flexibility, choice of 'a la carte' format and channel configuration mode make it an ideal solution for those who wish to have a high level of reliability. The connectivity of the new platform guarantees immediate access and exchange of media.

The new server enables high productivity workflows, coming in 4RU and 6RU versions. The 4RU high-performance server provides a full open configuration mode to address multi-standard, mission-critical live TV program production. The possibility of having an integrated multi-screen or supporting 1080p is easy to implement.

The 6RU model is designed to meet studio and production intake requirements. It offers 12-channel ingest capabilities based on the new TwinRec streaming mode, as well as 4K and 1080p support. The ability to integrate into high-speed networks, including 10 Gbit Ethernet, streamlines media flow in critical environments where production and post-production are connected.

The new XS supports HD-SDI, instant control, and supports all common codecs and containers, including XDCAM, DVCPRO, AVC-Intra and ProRes, ensuring seamless integration into existing infrastructures. The new XS also allows you to work with up to 96 audio tracks.

News-in-a-box

The same high performance technology included in the XS server can also be found in the XSNewsFlash, the new 'news-in-a-box' production and playout system that EVS is exhibiting these days in Las Vegas.

With MOS integration, in its premium configuration it provides complete multi-channel functionality in the newsroom.

It can also be used for disaster recovery or very fast response news production.
