Wohler bets on distribution for multiple platforms

New tools for the distribution of file-based content and the agreement with Cinnafilme, Wohler's main strengths at NAB 2014.

“This company is not in use since we did not buy any company nor were we bought by anyone.” This is how the CEO of Wohler, Carl Dempsey, NAB 2014 press briefing. The rapid evolution in content consumption habits is driving notable changes within broadcast companies and media technology providers. The consequence is that some sectors of the industry are shrinking.

“If we hadn't advanced in technology development, moving from baseband to streaming and then file-based streams, the market would have shrunk for us as well,” Dempsey explained.

Distribution tools

Known in the market for its solutions for managing and monitoring video, audio and subtitling signals, Wholer has undergone a restructuring to accompany this evolution, which has made possible, among other things, the update of the RadiantGrid 9 platform, which now has tools for the distribution of file-based content for multiple platforms, including OTT. Version 8.3 of the platform also enables quality control, more efficient transcoding and pattern conversion.

During NAB 2014, the company also announced the launch of Tachyon Wormhole, an automated file-based timing solution that allows time adjustment by up to 10% or even less, preserving not only video and audio quality, but also the integrity of the closed caption.

The new solution is the result of an agreement with Cinnafilme, a manufacturer of video conversion software that offers the Tachyon Standard Transcoding technology used in Wholer's RadiantGrid Intelligent Media Transformation platform.
