Telestream to present one-box solution for subtitle encoding for multiple live streams at NAB
The latest version of Lightspeed Live Stream will enable scalable, social media-friendly subtitle insertion into multiple live streams with zero re-encoding and re-transmission.
Telestream will present at NAB 2018 in Las Vegas a “one-box” solution for the encoding subtitles on multiple live streams. Sophisticated closed caption insertion capability is part of the latest version of Lightspeed Live Stream, Telestream's multi-screen live encoding and packaging solution for broadcasters, content aggregators and live event production companies.
As live video streaming over IP networks continues to grow exponentially, the need for live captioning within multi-screen applications is becoming critical. In response, Telestream's new integrated live subtitle encoding solution is now part of Lightspeed Live Stream, helping to avoid the cost and complexity of going baseband when inserting digital titles.
Today, virtually all IP subtitle insertion systems are cloud-based, requiring content to first be moved to the cloud, subtitled, then re-encoded and retransmitted for delivery. This introduces significant opportunity for human and mechanical error, which ultimately impacts the quality of the final content. In contrast, Telestream's live captioning solution with Lightspeed Live Stream eliminate these steps by encoding live captions within the original stream and guaranteeing the best possible quality.
And unlike expensive traditional one-channel baseband captioning hardware, Telestream has used its experience to develop in a 1RU team a system that encodes subtitles for multiple live video streams, saving space and between 7,000 and 10,000, according to the company, per channel. The scalability of the system offers the insertion of subtitles on demand in as many sequences as necessary. Lightspeed Live Stream uses standard captioning protocols to receive caption data, so existing court reporting software can connect to Lightspeed Live Stream over IP, making the system truly “plug and play.”
