CLAG MEDIA TALENT Presentation

The first edition of the contest CLAG Media Talent, organized by the Galician Audiovisual Cluster (CLAG) with the support of Televisión de Galicia (TVG), was presented this Wednesday, in Santiago, in an event that included the participation of the president of Clag, Andrés Barbé, and the director of TVG, Rosa Vilas. This initiative aims to detect new audiovisual talent and connect it with the business fabric, resulting in a catalog of innovative formats with commercial viability, which after evaluation by a jury will be broadcast by the winner as a pilot on the Galician regional channel.

In the presentation event, held in the City of Culture of Galicia, young creators participated and a significant number of Galician production companies and training centers that provide various teachings linked to audiovisuals were represented.

During his speech, the president of Clag announced the opening of the call for the first competition CLAG Media Talent on October 1, and referred to this initiative as “the starting point” in order to achieve the final objective of the contest, which is “to provide products to the international market.” For Andrés Barbé, initiatives like this serve to ensure that “audiovisual talent flows and is not atomized.”

For her part, the director of the TVG referred to the importance of this type of initiatives to provide an outlet for the innovative ideas that "abound in the audiovisual sector." Content – said Rosa Vilas – is increasingly necessary, given the increase in the number of platforms that is currently occurring.

Furthermore, the head of the regional television channel highlighted the role of TVG as the driving force of the Galician audiovisual sector, and warned that "we already have the structure, so we are going to incorporate the talent." In this sense, he expressed the need to also involve the University and other training centers in the development of the sector.

All creators over 18 years of age can participate individually in this contest. The call for this first edition of CLAG Media Languagest will open next October 1. Authors will have until November 14 to register their forms. The same period that companies have to express their interest in tutoring one of the preselected projects.

A commission made up of production companies will preselect the projects that will participate in the tutoring program, among all those submitted to the contest, and will designate the production company in charge of tutoring each of the preselected formats. The innovative nature of the project, its originality, its economic viability and its marketing potential to enter the foreign market will be valued.

During the two-week mentoring program, the company will make recommendations to the creator based on its expertise with the aim of improving the project from a creative, technical and commercial point of view. Finally, and after evaluating these works, the competition jury will select the winning project for the broadcast of its pilot on Galician Television.

CLAG-TVG collaboration agreement

To conclude the event, the president of Clag and the director of TVG also signed a Collaboration Agreement between the cluster and the Galician regional television channel for the development of this initiative.

This project also has the support of IGAPE and the Department of Economy and Industry and the European Regional Development Fund, through the line of “Igape aid to innovative business groups (clusters) in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder) within the framework of the Feder Galicia 2007-2013 operational program.”

The Galician Audiovisual Cluster will report, in the coming weeks, on the launch of the call for the first edition of CLAG Media Talent and will make public the rules of this contest.
