The acquisition of private cloud service OpenStack aims to accelerate the strategy of building the world's largest global Intercloud network

Cisco

Cisco just completed the acquisition of private company Metacloud, announced in mid-September. The Pasadena, California-based company operates private clouds for global organizations with the unique Service-OpenStack model that works remotely and offers private cloud storage services for data center construction.

Together with its partners, Cisco aims to meet the needs of its customers with a globally distributed and highly secure cloud platform, capable of meeting the demands of the Internet of Everything. The progress of the Intercloud project has been rapid since its announcement last March and has included the participation of key technology companies and cloud service providers, which are under the standards of the Cisco Cloud Services architecture, based on the OpenStack open source software ideal for the construction of public and private clouds.

With global acceptance of OpenStack given its ability to handle any workload on any machine, the ability to manage installations at scale is a critical component to the strategy. With the acquisition of this platform, Cisco intends to play an increasingly important role in the transformation of cloud services for its customers, allowing companies to match the operational benefits of a public cloud as well as the security and control that a private cloud provides. Metacloud will also allow service providers to combine their public cloud deployments with private clouds managed remotely with OpenStack and in turn have a single Intercloud offering for their customers.

Following the closing of the transaction, Metacloud professionals will join the Cisco Cloud and Managed Services infrastructure, led by Faiyaz Shahpurwala, Senior Vice President.
