Linux will promote the virtualization of network functions from an open platform
The Open Platform for NFV project will unite vendors, cloud and infrastructure providers, developers and users alike to define a new type of industry-standard platform.
The Linux Foundation has launched a new project aimed at virtualizing network functions (Open Platform for NFV, OPNFV) and software-defined networks (SDN).

Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation, recognizes that "open source code has been proven to accelerate innovation and the time it takes for new technologies to reach the market. The Open Platform for NFV project will bring together vendors, cloud and infrastructure providers, developers and users alike to define a new type of industry reference platform that integrates existing open source building blocks, with new components and tests that speed the development and deployment of NFV."
