Canon presents the new CN20x50, a 4K cine-servo super telephoto lens

Canon has reinforced its range of cine servo lenses with the new CN20x50, a high-performance super telephoto zoom lens for recording sports and nature productions for television.

It is the first lens of its kind to combine a built-in 1.5x multiplier with 20x magnification and a detachable servomotor unit, with an original focal length of 50-1,000mm that can be extended to 75-1,500mm.

Designed to offer a portable solution for television productions with Super 35mm cameras (both HD, UHD and 4K), the CN20x50 is a tool with unprecedented quality, versatility and ease of use. This new lens has a completely renewed removable servomotorized unit, which allows you to record in an agile, broadcast-type style, difficult to achieve with common cinema lenses. Therefore, the new cine servo lens helps meet the growing demand for sports and nature productions for television in Ultra High Definition (UHD).

Versatile and reliable

Today it is expected that television productions can be recorded in the most difficult and unpredictable environments; For this reason, it is necessary to have objectives that allow great flexibility. For example, in wildlife television shows, camera operators typically work in harsh and difficult conditions, sometimes requiring the ability to film from extremely far distances, while sports filming requires the ability to record close-ups of action in stadiums at extremely high resolution. Flexible handling

Compatible with a wide range of cameras, the CN20x50 also allows connection between the lens and the camera and will be available in both EF mount and the different variants of the PL mount. The EF mount version uses Canon's proprietary system, while the PL system variants will be compatible with the Cooke/i Technology standard. Both models have a 12-pin series connection for integration with common television equipment.

The focus ring rotation is 180 degrees, offering a balance between the precision required for 4K images and the speed required for television broadcasting. In situations where every second counts, and where cameramen only have one chance to capture a key shot, having high-speed zoom, iris and easy focus means that even the most rapidly changing scenes can be recorded with ease and precision.

The design of the new lens facilitates its compatibility with a wide range of film and television accessories, including zoom and focus operating controls, filter housings and 0.8 and 0.5 type modular gears such as follow focus units, to offer a truly versatile solution.
