Alberto Fabra now announces that he does not rule out reopening a “new Canal Nou”

Barely a year after the closure of RTVV, Alberto Fabra admits in Parliament that he is open to reopening regional radio and television "if there is economic solvency, without implying a tax increase and if resources are not taken away from fundamental services of citizens."

The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Alberto Fabra, has announced, during the control session of the Valencian Cortes in which the Community's budget is discussed this Thursday, his intention to launch a "new Canal Nou" if it "was sustainable."

“With an RTVV where Health, Education and Welfare policies are not mortgaged, I would be willing to talk,” said Fabra.

The Valencian PP would be willing to debate in the Cortes the Popular Legislative Initiative, supported by almost 90,000 signatures, which calls for a public radio and television in Valencian and has insisted that its government is willing to propose a new regional radio and television "if there is economic solvency, without implying an increase in taxes and if resources are not taken away from fundamental services of citizens."

Fabra ha asegura que “estamos dispuestos a hablar si esto no supone un nuevo sobreesfuerzo a los valenciano”. El presidente ha asegurado que se el proceso de extinción sigue adelante pero ha garantizado la protección de todos los equipos técnicos de RTVV ya que si “las circunstancias económicas cambian y hay estabilidad presupuestaria podríamos plantear una reapertura”. “Mantenemos el mismo criterio. En un momento determinado, por cuestiones económicas, tuvimos que abordar esta situación. Si las circunstancias cambian, podemos abrir una nueva televisión partiendo de cero”, ha admitido.

También ha defendido que la intención del Consell era mantener una televisión pública en valenciano, que fuera “sostenible y viable económicamente”, pero las “circunstancias sobrevenidas” hicieron “imposible” e “inviable” esa propuesta, lo cual “no quiere decir” que estén “en contra de ese modelo”.

“Eso sí, tiene que ser con solvencia económica”, que “no implique subida de impuestos” y estén “garantizados y no se quiten recursos a los servicios fundamentales a los ciudadanos”, ha destacado Fabra.
