Sony will supply the Norwegian public broadcaster with around 130 cameras of the PXW-X200 and PXW-X500 models.

NRK team at Sony

Sony PXW-X200The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) has invested in new XDCAM cameras from Sony as part of the transition process to high definition that is being carried out. The cameras will be used to produce national and regional news, as well as sports and regional broadcasts.

Over the summer, NRK announced a public tender as part of a framework agreement for the acquisition of cameras. The tender was awarded to Sony, which will supply NRK with the new XDCAM technology. A total of around 130 cameras will be distributed in the NRK offices. Sixty of these cameras are the PXW-X200 model, which was presented during the IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) fair in September of this year. The other seventy are Sony PXW-X500 1080p 50 CCD sensor cameras.

Sony PXW-X500Both models are XDCAM cameras with solid state memory perfect for a number of different HD productions, such as electronic news gathering (ENG), sports production, live production and documentaries.

In addition to the investment in cameras, NRK has decided to purchase 15 CA-FB70 fiber optic adapters with camera control units (CCU). Fiber optic adapters enable smart, flexible and cost-effective use of cameras and ENG cameras can easily be used as system cameras.
