The EBU renews its board of directors
The priority of the new Board of Directors will be to maintain a balance between achieving cost efficiencies, while promoting the improvement and modernization of the services provided by the EBU.
The 73rd General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union, held in Geneva, has elected the new executive board that will govern the EBU for the next two years.
The executive committee will be chaired again by Jean-Paul Philippot, (RTBF Belgium), who was re-elected at the summer General Assembly in Naples together with Anna-Maria Tarantola, (RAI Italy), who replaces Claudio Cappon, (RAI Italy) as vice-president. Cappon will step down after seven years of service.
Petr Dvorak, who was appointed General Director of Czech Public Broadcasting in 2011, joins the Board for his first term. The remaining eight members were re-elected by the outgoing Board of Directors.
Philippot assured that the new board of directors, which will take office on January 1, 2015 for a two-year term, reflects the diversity within the EBU.
The president assured that the priority of the new Board will be to maintain a balance between achieving cost efficiencies, while promoting the improvement and modernization of the services provided by the EBU.
“In an increasingly difficult environment in which competitors and political pressures challenge our reason for being, we need our Union to actively and continuously promote to decision makers and our public, the distinctive character and values shared by PSM (public service media) such as universality, independence, excellence, diversity, responsibility and innovation.”
La UER cuenta con 73 miembros activos en 56 países que operan 913 servicios de televisión y 854 servicios de radio que transmiten en 96 idiomas a una audiencia potencial de más de mil millones de personas.
