‘Who are you. Portrait of a photographer’ de Martin Zarka, obtiene el premio #MyNextProCamera PXW-FS7
Organized by Sony, more than a thousand mini-documentaries from all over the world participated in the contest.
A jury made up of industry experts has announced the winner of the #MyNextProCamera contest after three months of collecting original short documentaries. YouTube celebrities from all over Europe presented in this contest organized by Sony in September uploading their own mini-documentaries, in which they showed the first time they saw the PXW-FS7 camera.
More than a thousand participants from around the world created or submitted a short film to compete for industry recognition and win the long-awaited Sony PXW-FS7. Participants were invited to create or share a documentary of up to two minutes and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo using the hashtag #MyNextProCamera. Sony selected the finalists and the winner was chosen by a jury made up of industry experts Pol Turrents, Nino Leitner, Gaby García, Den Lennie, Tom Swindell and Emmanuel Pampuri.
After arduous deliberation, the jury decided that the winner of the 2014 #MyNextProCamera Sony PXW-FS7 contest was Martin Zarka from France. Who are you – Portrait of a photographer, the video with which Martin won, explores the motivations of photographer Rémi Chapeaublanc as he works on his project Gods & Beasts in Paris and Mongolia.
"I was immediately fascinated by Rémi and his special way of playing with the environment, with the paradox between who he is and what he shows. That inspired me to capture who Rémi was through his work, in which he tries to capture the true essence of people through his portraits," explains Martin. “The narrative of the video attempts to highlight this concept by first focusing on external elements such as Rémi's appearance and hobbies, then removing these elements and leaving only Rémi's perspective on things.”
Gaby García, one of the jury members, praised the work as “a great example of good composition in each shot, in which a very good story is told in just two minutes.” Filmmaker Den Lennie was equally impressed by Martin's work, calling it "imaginative, fascinating and I loved the use of sound. An excellent narrative structure, brilliant."
Martin will receive a brand new NXCAM PXW-FS7 camera with 35mm Exmor CMOS Super sensor with E-mount lens, 11x zoom and 4K/2K RAW recording options, the leading camera for all-round filmmakers.
Commenting on the award, Martin said: "I'm looking forward to having a built-in 4K workflow, better ergonomics and the ability to record slow motion shots. I want to thank Sony and the jury members for choosing my work; this camera will be my new companion and I'm excited to know that I'll soon be able to try it out."
Bill Drummond, Head of Strategic Marketing Sony Europe, said: "The response from the global community of filmmakers has been amazing, both in terms of the extraordinary standard of quality of the entrants and the number of entries submitted. I would like to congratulate Martin on his winning entry and thank all the entrants."
